It’s 2016: Let’s All (Re)Decorate For Fuller House!

So remember a couple months ago when Netflix (pause: I was typing this and a Fuller House commercial legit came on the TV – it’s weird this popular streaming service is advertising on network TV. ANYWAYS) released the first promo for Fuller House? If you don’t, maybe it’s because you blocked it out after CRYING SO MANY UNEXPECTED TEARS. https://youtu.be/uhInIOKwGXU It was the first look into the new era of a Tanner family, or rather “Fuller” family since that’s DJ’s married name now, and how things have changed since 1995. Specifically, it’s comprised of shots of an empty house, which looks all too familiar and different at the same time. For many of us, this home isn’t just the ‘house that built the tanners’, it’s the ‘house that built me’ as a viewer as well. But of course they can’t keep the exact same set from 20 years ago. It’s TV, things need to updated and shown that time has passed, so in conjunction with our ongoing series Let’s All Decorate,…

We Discovered a Place Called Twatt! – 1st-7th August 1998

Saturday 1stSpent most of the day travelling then stopped here at the Royal Dunkeld Hotel. There was a Scottie dog here called Fergus at the same time as us. I thought I had a brain tuma [Oh, come on. I was a better speller than that.] coz I’d had a headache all day but Mum and Dad said it was sinusitis coz it was in my nose too. At tea there was this man with really bad B.O. and we had to move coz Abby was nearly sick! BYE! Sunday 2nd I got even more worried about my brain as I had another headache. We stayed overnight ay my cousins’ house in Wick but their family went away so we didn’t see them then. When we got there we realised that the tickets for the ferry to Orkney were gone so Mum had to sort it out. I needed a hug for some reason and started wishing I had a boyfriend. I dunno what brought it on but…

All she seems to talk about is her hair – 18th June 1998

Thursday 18thI’ve been feeling a bit left out of everything for the last couple of days. It might just be me being sensitive bit it feels as if nobody really cares I’m there. – Emma’s too busy with Freddie all the time and all she seems to talk about is her hair and how many spots she has today. – Hayley would rather I wasn’t here at all coz she’s decided she wants a boyfriend so has started fancying Ferny again and, of course, I’m competition aren’t I? – Ralph just doesn’t give a toss about me anymore which is a big difference from the beginning of last week. – Rachael went to Emma’s house last night and they phoned Freddie and evidently they were talking about me. I dunno what was said though. – Ed seems to think I’ve been telling Dougie (James Douglas) things about him when I haven’t said a word. I dunno what’s going on. I also get the feeling that nobody’s telling me…

A massive wave of jealousy and annoyance came over me – 12th June 1998

Friday 12th [Cleo the cat’s hairs sellotaped in to my diary foreverrrrrr. Well, for 18 years. Still pretty gross.] An awful end to an awful week. Ralph hates me and I’m ill. We went to the cinema tonight with Emma, Freddie, Hayley, Lindsey Bullman, Georgia Dean, Safiyah L and Olivia. We all split up. Georgia and Safiyah saw Sliding Doors, Lindsey and Olivia saw Scream 2 and me, Ralph, Freddie, Emma and Hayley all went to see The Wedding Singer. It was quite a good film but Ralph went all miserable and sat on his own. Hayley said he said I was a bitch but Emma said he said an evil witch. Either way – BASTARD! Well, he wasn’t much company on the way to McDonald’s either. There were just the four of is coz Hayley went early with everyone else. He didn’t say one word to me. I don’t understand coz he spoke to me in school. I know he’s gone off me and doesn’t like me…

Cookies + Sangria | Traci Doromal & Molly Dougherty

We met in high school, thanks to the alphabetizing system teachers have been using since the 1800s to seat kids in their desks for homeroom. We’ve always found the same things were funny, and in 2013 we started Cookies + Sangria hoping that other people had the same sensibilities. Now we live on opposite sides of the country and – just like passing notes in homeroom back in 2002 – we use the blog to share the things we think are funny with each other and our internet friends.

My 20 Year Diary | Alana Hitchell

My name is Alana, and I’ve been writing in a diary for as long as I can remember.  I started in 1993 when I was eight years old and kept writing up until I was 28 in early 2014.  I didn’t write every single day, but I acquired plenty of diary entries over those 20 years that I thought would be fun to share.  I decided to start a blog and post each diary entry online, no matter how boring or mortifying they might be.  To make things a little more interesting, I also add photos and include present-day commentary where I provide explanations, observations, or simply poke fun at my younger self.

Coveted 90s Christmas Toys

It seems like everything from the 80s and 90s is getting a revival these days – from Full House to The X Files to Jem and the Holograms (although that didn’t go so well). There’s a rush of nostalgia going on right now, but it seems different to us millennials because it actually pertains to us. Instead of wearing 70s-inspired bell bottoms when we were in 7th grade, now we’re the ones who are rocking daisy print baby dolls dresses and jelly shoes. Yeah, I feel old too. In addition to fashion and entertainment, kids’ toys also somehow make a comeback, with things like Easy-Bake Ovens (which are weirdly futuristic looking now) and Puppy Surprises reappearing. In fact, the Puppy Surprise, you know that stuffed animal that’s holding an unknown number of baby puppies in its velcro sack, made a return last year, and it was so popular that the company had to stop airing commercials because the demand was so high. Easy-Bake Ovens and Puppy Surprises may have been coveted in the…

Home Alone is 25 Years Old! Here is a Delightful Oral History

Originally posted on The Nostalgia Blog:
This is a delightful oral history of what I think is safe to say my generation’s all time favorite Christmas movie, Home Alone (all due respect to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation). The piece is written by James Hughes (son of Home Alone writer, John Hughes) for Chicago magazine which is fitting as the film took place “on the most boring street in the whole United States of America, where nothing even remotely dangerous will ever happen.” which happens to be in Chicago. If you aren’t familiar with oral histories, they are in my opinion the best way to recount stories (especially in the entertainment industry). The reason they are so good is that it is the people involved just recount their versions of what happens which usually makes for a more interesting read. The article is full of fun anecdotes and delightful stories, so please, grab a whole cheese pizza, sit down and enjoy reading this oral history…ya filthy animals. link to oral history found below: http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/December-2015/Home-Alone/
