Prosciutto Wrapped Figs

Originally posted on Life According to Jamie:
Figs are one of my favorite fruits. Well, I love most fruits, but figs are up there. I think I even had them on my monthly favorites one month last summer. I also love prosciutto, the Italian cured ham. It’s a well-known fact that salty and sweet go together so well. A popular appetizer are prosciutto wrapped melons, but an appetizer or snack that you may not hear about as often is prosciutto wrapped figs. This isn’t really a recipe post, because there’s nothing to it. I washed and cut up some figs, wrapped some strips of prosciutto around the figs and that was it! The salty prosciutto pairs harmoniously with the sweetness from the figs. This is perfect to serve as an appetizer to any summer dinner parties or a little snack for yourself this summer as the figs are so sweet and refreshing. It’s so tasty and while the addition of the prosciutto to the figs might not make it the healthiest snack choice, it certainly isn’t the unhealthiest…

Chicken Noodle Bowl

You know those people who you say hello to and they don’t say hello back? They just smile and it’s a fake smile? One of those people?? There was somebody at my old company who used to do that and I fell for it like the first 67 times. ? I’d be walking down the hall and this lady would be walking the other way. Never any particular time but whenever I would pass this lady in the hall, I would just be like, “hey good morning” or “hey how’s it going?”, whatever the fuck you say right? Just being polite. And she would always do the same thing. ? She would tilt her head to the side like she was going awwww, and she’d do this smile but she wouldn’t show any teeth, like the Jay Leno smile? And then her eyes would squint up like she was looking into the sun. She’d do that every time. This big stupid fake smile and I’d just be like grrrrrrrr! ?…

Apple & Peach Crostata

Originally posted on Life According to Jamie:
Crostata’s are a dessert that I really enjoy making. If you’ve never heard of a crostata before, it’s essentially an open-faced pie. You can make yours with any kind of filling you want. For the one I’m sharing today I used apples and peaches – perfect for the upcoming summer season and on/off spring days we’re having now. First, peel and cut your fruit. Then, I mix the fruit with brown sugar, flour, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. The lemon juice is to help the fruit from browning. After giving the filling a good mix,  I brush egg wash onto pie crust dough and then carefully pour/spoon the fruit into the center of my pie crust dough. Next, fold the sides towards the center, slightly overlapping the sections. Brush some egg wash onto the top/sides of the crostata and sprinkle some sugar onto the dough. I also put a few pats of butter onto the exposed fruit. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the crostata is a nice…

Most of the store- made granola is usually high in sugar and contains unhealthy oils. The advantage of making your own granola is that you know exactly what’s in it and you can add you favourite ingredients. This granola is made with oats, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds and your favourite nuts and fruits. The granola is naturally sweetened with coconut flakes and  honey or maple syrup.  I usually make a large batch granola this to last throughout the week . This recipe yield a large batch of granola ( about 6 cups). Serve with yogurt  or nut milk and fresh fruit or berries. ? ?
