The Importance of Taste

Just one of our decadent breakfasts this week We Eat So Well …and I want to talk about it. After three or four days of consuming whatever the heck we fancied in Crested Butte—including an assortment of things we don’t usually eat, like ice cream and a bucket of fried chicken—it’s been nice to return to our whole foods-centric lifestyle. One of my favorite things (there are many) about Nick is his passion for making delicious meals from whole, organic, and nutritious ingredients. He’s really made a believer out of me. ? The man loves to thumb through vegetable-heavy cookbooks. Lately it’s been Simple Green Suppers (you might remember the kale salad and those roasted butternut squash + black bean quesadillas). We’re also huge fans of Thug Kitchen and anything written by Ottolenghi. When he gets excited about certain recipes, my gut reaction (ha) is Wait, there’s no block of cheese or pound of pasta in that! Old habits die hard. (Also, we still eat plenty of cheese and pasta.) Vegan Snack Bars Review

Originally posted on Charm of Love:
Hi everyone, I have a bit of a later start today, but I also finish later. After today I’ll only have three days until my holiday 🙂 Today I have a review of snack bars for you, I have been able to try a few Nakd bars but this post contains three different brands. The first bar I tried was The Primal Pantry’s macadamia and coconut paleo bar, I’m not fussed on trying a paleo diet but this bar is vegan and sounded tasty so I bought it. These bars are gluten free, grain free, and also free from refined sugar, GMOs, soya, vegetable oil and sulphites. Much like the Nakd bars it’s full of simple ingredients and is raw, it has a lighter colour than most other bars that I’ve seen. Unlike some coconut products that I’ve tried recently the coconut was not soapy, it was just creamy and delicious and the strips of coconut added another texture to the bar. The overall taste was sweet and nutty…

Vegetable Rice Review

Originally posted on Charm of Love:
Evening everyone, As this post goes live I am done with my pre-assessment and I’m probably just waking up, getting ready to go to work. I’ve stockpiled a bit of food to keep me going and I’m just going to get on with it, looking forward to having the weekend off. Today I have a very short review for you on beetroot and cauliflower rice. I started off by making the cauliflower rice by myself, it’s super easy (just pulse in a food processor and fry) but I also picked up a ready made pack, as well as a pack of beetroot rice so I thought I’d let you know about that. Maybe you don’t have time to prepare it, maybe you don’t have a food processor, it’s probably the easiest accompaniment to a meal ever and a brilliant way to add more vegetables to your diet. It’s also a brilliant way to complete a meal without carbs, if you are trying to avoid those. I bought these because…

How We Eat [Healthy] For $75 A Week

Happy Monday, people! Are you heading to work for the week? Starting out with a meal prep Monday so you can crush your nutrition goals? This post is a teensy bit long but it’s something I get asked about a LOT so I promise it is packed full of helpful info 🙂 I have written before about? Our Dave Ramsey Adventure? and how it changed our lives. If it weren’t for budgeting and planning, we would not have had the beautiful wedding we did, and we would probably have struggled a lot more in our marriage. We started our budget using this worksheet. And quickly learned that according to the suggested percentages we were WAY overspending on food. Based on our goals and initial income, we decided $300 was a good monthly rate for groceries. I shop weekly, so we budgeted that as $75/ week. Just for reference, I was spending probably $100-$120 by myself prior to moving in with Keaton, so this was huge adjustment. However, I have…

Prosciutto Wrapped Figs

Life According to Jamie Figs are one of my favorite fruits. Well, I love most fruits, but figs are up there. I think I even had them on my monthly favorites one month last summer. I also love prosciutto, the Italian cured ham. It’s a well-known fact that salty and sweet go together so well. A popular appetizer are prosciutto wrapped melons, but an appetizer or snack that you may not hear about as often is prosciutto wrapped figs. This isn’t really a recipe post, because there’s nothing to it. I washed and cut up some figs, wrapped some strips of prosciutto around the figs and that was it! The salty prosciutto pairs harmoniously with the sweetness from the figs. This is perfect to serve as an appetizer to any summer dinner parties or a little snack for yourself this summer as the figs are so sweet and refreshing. It’s so tasty and while the addition… View original post 20 more words
