Time To Get Real | Sharing My Struggle

Originally posted on Polished by Amy:
Hey guys! I wanted to share this super personal post today as a therapeutic process for myself. I also want to share because I know there are so many people out there who can relate to my story. This story talks mainly about my struggle as a small business owner, entrepreneur, and a 23 year old trying to get on her own feet. You may have gone through some of the same things, or are even going through it now. Whether your difficulties may be financial, career, or family related, there is always a light at the end. These “low” moments in our life are nothing to be ashamed of and they often allow us to find what we really want out of ourselves, other people, and our lives in general. At 23 years old, this story I’m sharing today has to be the lowest point in my life. I am and always have been an extremely positive person no matter what happened in my life, and this period…

What is G.U.M?

G.U.M is a company geared towards bringing the millennial community together through the common love of 80s & 90s nostalgia and our never-ending battle with adulthood. From quarter life crises to unconventional career paths (YouTubing, Blogging, etc.) we aim to foster an environment of support, positive interactions, and collaborations. In a nutshell… We are the twenty-somethings and (early) thirty-somethings that realized no one prepared us for adulthood. The ones who don’t want to spend the next 40+ years sitting through a 9 to 5 job that we hate. The ones that are settling down and starting families AND the ones who are watching and are far from ready. The ones that are eager to be self employed, have money that makes itself, travel the world, be fit, and in style. The ones that are last to remember a life that wasn’t tech heavy and first to grow up with ever-evolving technology. The ones who strive to figure out the secret to work-life-balance and “having our shit together.” We are the ones that hate the negative connotation older generations associate …

CAREER SERIES NO. 13- ENTREPRENEUR

Originally posted on Gen Y Girl: Hi guys! Today I’m really excited to share Georgene’s career experience with you. She’s kicking butt as one of the founders of a new company review site for women, by women, and it’s super interesting to read about. I know that so many of you are entrepreneurs at heart, so hopefully this post will inspire you to take your business idea (or blog) to the next level! Enjoy, and let us know what you think! What did you want to be when you were growing up and why? I went through a lot of different phases, the way I imagine a lot of kids do.  At 5 I remember telling my dad I wanted to become President and then feeling devastated because he told me I wasn’t born in the U.S.  But the most lasting career ambition I had growing up was to become a classical musician.  I loved music, and I have been playing the piano since I was young.  At 17, my first college experience was actually at a …

Brian Chesky | Airbnb

Originally posted on Nikhil Sethi:
In the past couple of weeks, I’ve started to read more and more about Airbnb founder Brian Chesky. Airbnb is a company that allows people to offer their homes as a place to stay through an app. It’s like the bed and breakfast establishments that pre-date the huge hotel chains of today. An art student who came up with the idea when he was broke and unemployed in San Francisco, Chesky has grown his company from a silly idea with a friend to one of the largest startups on the planet. Airbnb recently received a valuation of $24 billion, which is larger than the market value of apparent competitor Marriott. It seems insane to me how a person who wasn’t even really a technology guy before built a company to this size so quickly. All of this seemed like an impossibility before I read this long piece on him. Besides being a really well-written work of journalism, it sheds light on how Chesky was able to do so much. The…
