What it Feels Like For a Girl…

Originally posted on Picking the Day:
This has been a hard post to write, and not in the way most people might think when they catch on to the content. It’s been something that has been bubbling under the surface for quite some time, long before #MeToo and the Times Up movement, long before the Weinstein scandal and subsequent stories that have surfaced since. Longer than I can quite put my finger on. I’ve been wanting write something about it for a while, but I couldn’t find the words. When recent media stories exploded, I felt even more that I should write something, but still, the words eluded me. It’s taken me quite some time to understand what I wanted to say, months and months of deep thought and deliberation, and I still I can’t say I’m completely convinced that I’m going to manage to express quite how I feel, but as this week marks the 100 year anniversary of the Suffragette Movement, I feel the time is right to do my best to try…

What Happens When You Have Been Unemployed for Too Long

The last time I was unemployed and looking for a job was in January of 2016. The project I was working on in 2015 had closed down and the whole team designated for the project was forced to look for work elsewhere. It took me four months to get a decent job, and even that was a three-month contract at a startup company doing SEO writing. Three months later, I was back out in the unemployment market. Of course, the good news was that a month after my short-term employment ended, another company was kind enough to offer me a job offer, that time a permanent one with growth potential and possibly a brighter future for me. But what if I didn’t get the short-term contract? I’d have been out of a job for almost six months and that would have been a questionable scenario for employers during my interviews. There wouldn’t be an interview. It would have been a full-blown crime-scene investigation and interrogation. I would come under scrutiny for not having found a job, or worse, accused of being …

A College Student’s Dilemma: Plans After College

It’s been 3 weeks since the school semester started once again. Being a college student isn’t all that fun especially when you’re taking 6 classes(!!!) this semester and I must admit, I had my fair share of great experiences in college, but it hit me that this is my second to last semester before I’m truly done with my Bachelor’s degree. Juggling 6 classes and having to work a lot and also wanting to have a social life (with many more adventures to do) is SO HECTIC. Let alone, I’ve never even taken 5 or 6 classes before this semester and I have so much blogging I would love to do but I am trying hard to find all the time to do it. I tell myself that I will tire myself hustling and try to catch my breath and let this be just 4 months of a little bit of pain… Meanwhile, this post is already taking a different route once again from my usual adventure/travel stories on my blog since I don’t usually…

Lazy Days, or Stuck in a Rut ?

Originally posted on Tomorrow Girl:
You may notice I tend to write a lot of positive posts, how to look after your mind, how to feel better, beating negativity etc etc.  Now, I don’t do this because I’m sitting here with ribbons in my hair, singing along to musicals.  But I write them because that’s what works for me. It keeps me motivated, allows me to check in with myself, and I like to think others like a positive read also. But on the flipside, it’s ok to admit when we have shitty days.  We all have those days where every idea we had to be productive goes out the window.  The days where we say we will DEFINITELY be going to the gym, but instead we then spend the whole evening scrolling through ‘Andy from school’s photos,’ on social media. Because god forbid we don’t look through all those, even though we haven’t seen Andy for 8 years.  Or those days where you spend hours looking up healthy recipes and meal plans, to then…

Reminiscing Summer

Saying that I’m not a great fan of winter would be a huge understatement – I need to wear a jumper in over 20 C (I’m always cold), so when the temperature drops to around 0 C I just wish I could bury myself in my bed and hibernate until April-May. I shouldn’t complain about it too much now though, this winter has been exceptionally merciful in terms of temperatures so far. But besides the cold, the thing I dislike the most about winter is the lack of daylight. I get up early – my alarm goes off at 5:30 Monday to Friday – so I can watch the sunrise from the window in my office at work, and by the time I get home in the afternoon it’s already getting dark again. It puts me in that sad, tired mood, and despite having the same daily schedule in December and July I can’t help the feeling that in winter I get by far less quality time for myself.…

Rediscovering Old Beauty Favourites

Sometimes I get a bit stuck in a rut when it comes to makeup. With travelling between home, and my boyfriend’s house constantly I rely heavily on whatever happens to be in my makeup bag. I thought it was about time I switched things up, so I had a root through my makeup and I’ve fallen back in love with some golden oldies! The Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder was all the rage when I first started blogging. I’ve been having trouble with my t-zone getting oily recently so this powder has done the trick for me. It’s a very light weight powder, yet it still does a great job of controlling oil. I hate that cakey powder feeling that comes with mattifying products, but the Laura Mercier powder really solves that issue for me. I went through a real phase a couple of years ago of investing in lots of Makeup Geek shadows, but then they sadly sank to the bottom of my makeup pile. Considering each pan costs £5, they are…

Make Up Essentials For Beginners

Originally posted on THE MILLENNIAL EXCLUSIVE Blog:
The world of beauty is as big as the ocean and just like the ocean it can seem intimidating. I mean probably as I type this hundreds of new products hit the shelf (probably). So where does someone start in the makeup aisle? Well have no fear because as a beginner myself, here are my go to products for an easy everyday makeup look (it won’t break the bank either). It’s important to note that your skin and lips should be moisturized prior to applying any makeup to avoid dry spots and a cakey look PRIMER Priming the face helps to keep your makeup look in place and lasting all day. One important thing to note with primers is if they are water or oil based. Pair the appropriate one with your water or oil based foundation to make sure your makeup doesn’t melt throughout the day. CONCEALER/ FOUNDATION I mainly use concealer on problem spots such as acne marks or dark spots such as around my nose…
