What’s In My Mailbox? | Washi’s Delivery Service

Happy Friday, friends! It’s been a very international week in my mailbox–pen pal letters from the UK, Germany, Australia, and Spain have all completed their journey to cold Massachusetts over the past few days. A certain Miyazakian stationery item pictured above inspired this post’s title, but there are many other treasures to be found in this mail haul, too: gorgeous gemstone stamps, summer memories, Van Gogh, book pages… I am completely in love with this Studio Ghibli washi tape featured on a letter from England–probably the most amazing stationery creation ever designed! It’s hard to tell which one I love more: how can you choose between Jiji and a witchy postmark or colorful, flower-power totoros? (Extra points for including the mid-sized teal totoro, my personal favorite of the clan.) My last post showcased all of the many books I’ve been devouring recently–and this letter from Germany coincidentally reflects my love of reading! I adore the veritable library of tape, and the book pages used to decorate the envelope. The inside…

Why I’m Not a Slut for Being on Tinder

Originally posted on Almost Couture:
I don’t really tend to do ranty, rambly posts on my blog; to be honest, there’s a time and place for that, and I don’t really feel like it’s my little corner of the internet where shoes are king. However, I’ve had a pretty rubbish week – I’d go even as far as to say a crap week – because I was called a slut for being on Tinder. Which, frankly, isn’t fair. A quick bit of a backstory here: sadly, before Christmas, The Boyfriend and I broke up.?It was rubbish and pants and a bit flat for a while, but I have great friends and a cracking job, so I feel good; all shiny and bright, which is really unlike me. Purely for the giggles, I downloaded Tinder whilst out on a girls’ night, and have spent many a humorous ten minutes frantically swiping yes for ‘Peter, 45, three kids and a Staffie’ with pals over a couple of Cosmos. Tinder is weird. I still don’t quite understand what…

What it’s like to fly business class when you have no business to be flying business class

Originally posted on Annabel Fenwick Elliott:
The best flying experience of my lyyyfe Last week I was lucky as fuck enough to fly to Australia BUSINESS CLASS. The downside of this is that I’m ruined for life now. I live in London and my father has lived in Australia for some 20 years, so I’ve spent a lot of time on very, very long-haul flights. It’s far from pleasant, of course, being strapped into an upright chair squidged next to strangers and screaming infants for 24 hours but obviously these are first world problems. I’ve developed a formula, and coping mechanisms, and mainly it all revolves around drinking heavily and knocking myself out with sleeping tablets until it’s all over – somehow managing to keep it together during the layover – before emerging, Gollum-like, on the other end. It’s all fucked now that I have experienced what it’s like to fly from London to Australia up at the front of the plane. I flew Cathay Pacific, which I’m told is the best in the world…

A Trace of Teal

This is something that you’ll rarely see; us two in colour. But we’ve tried so many different things fashion wise this year already, maybe it’s the start of a new thing? We’re gradually adding a splash of colour to our almost all black wardrobes, hey, you should be proud of us guys! We’re loving the colour teal at the moment. There’s something quite majestic about it, when we think of the colour, the word ‘mermaids’ are instantly brought to our minds! Who doesn’t want to feel like a mermaid? Rachel:  Jacket- Forever 21 Top- Young Guns merch Skirt- Urban Outfitters Boots- Dr Martens Skirts have been some of my favourite items of clothing to buy recently, so when I found this teal A-Line skirt in the Urban Outfitters sale, I didn’t hesitate to order it. I like to make excuses a lot of the time, this occasion being “hey, it will go perfectly with my new docs, so I need it”. I love how it has the buttons at…

Street Artist: Alice Pasquini

? A visual artist from Rome, Alice is a talented young woman who also works as an illustrator, set designer, and painter. Most of her artwork can be seen on city walls in various cities across the globe, such as Sydney, New York, Barcelona, Oslo, Moscow, Paris, Copenhagen, Marrakech, Berlin, Saigon, London, and Rome. Her inspiration and message behind her craft is to create art about people and their relationships. She aims to depict the small or little between moments between people and one another that never get seen. While representing the true feelings of human empathy and exploring different points of view. Some of her other depictions that you can see throughout her work include strong and independent women.  A new meaning of what it takes to be the woman of today and showing women in a way that differs from the highly sexualized image of femininity that is typically seen in society. The brightness and colorful hues in her work are usually carried out in color spray paint, acrylics,…

A massive wave of jealousy and annoyance came over me – 12th June 1998

Friday 12th [Cleo the cat’s hairs sellotaped in to my diary foreverrrrrr. Well, for 18 years. Still pretty gross.] An awful end to an awful week. Ralph hates me and I’m ill. We went to the cinema tonight with Emma, Freddie, Hayley, Lindsey Bullman, Georgia Dean, Safiyah L and Olivia. We all split up. Georgia and Safiyah saw Sliding Doors, Lindsey and Olivia saw Scream 2 and me, Ralph, Freddie, Emma and Hayley all went to see The Wedding Singer. It was quite a good film but Ralph went all miserable and sat on his own. Hayley said he said I was a bitch but Emma said he said an evil witch. Either way – BASTARD! Well, he wasn’t much company on the way to McDonald’s either. There were just the four of is coz Hayley went early with everyone else. He didn’t say one word to me. I don’t understand coz he spoke to me in school. I know he’s gone off me and doesn’t like me…

City Review: Madrid

Originally posted on travelux:
Madrid is the capital of Spain and not only a popular touristic destination, but also important when it comes to business purposes. Especially the Town Hall and Palacio Real are impressive, but the city has a lot to offer in general. Our city review shows you what we discovered in Madrid! First, our way led us past the National Museum and National Library. The National Library of Spain was founded in 1712 and is thus older than 300 years! Strolling through alleys One very special thing about Madrid is that there are huge streets as well as very small alleys. Strolling around in Madrid, we were able to watch incredible architecture which is mostly historic. Congress of Deputies Madrid One example for that is the building which houses the Congress of Deputies! Botanical Garden Madrid Honestly, I’m not quite sure why we invested the small extra fee to be able to access the Botanical Garden Madrid in December as it was just winter and thus, not much could be seen. Apart…

An Interview with ‘Making a Murderer’ Defense Attorney Jerry Buting

My wife and I both look at our careers as more of a vocation than a job. Jesus reached out to the underclass of society, including the poor, mentally ill and imprisoned, and so did we. They are humans the same as anyone, but often are cast aside by the rest of society. Unfortunately, society doesn’t want to provide the financial and other resources for those who are charged with or convicted of crimes. What has happened in Wisconsin to indigent defense during my career is illustrative. The staff public defenders are salaried attorneys with good support staff and training, even if they have caseloads that are too high. But only about 60 percent of indigent defendants are represented by staff public defenders; the rest are appointed to private lawyers…

Welcome back to Hamilton Explained! It’s been a minute. When the Hamilton soundtrack was released all of these historical and musical references were jumping out at me and I wanted to start unpacking some of them here. I wasn’t counting on a whole community of people doing this very thing over at Genius. Instead of duplicating the efforts from Genius (check out their annotations if you haven’t!) here’s Cabinet Battle #1, explained through tweets from Kanye West’s epic January 27, 2016 against Wiz Khalifa. WASHINGTON: Ladies and gentlemen, you coulda been anywhere in the world tonight, but you’re here with us in New York City. Are you ready for a cabinet meeting???
