Vegan Snack Bars Review

Originally posted on Charm of Love:
Hi everyone, I have a bit of a later start today, but I also finish later. After today I’ll only have three days until my holiday 🙂 Today I have a review of snack bars for you, I have been able to try a few Nakd bars but this post contains three different brands. The first bar I tried was The Primal Pantry’s macadamia and coconut paleo bar, I’m not fussed on trying a paleo diet but this bar is vegan and sounded tasty so I bought it. These bars are gluten free, grain free, and also free from refined sugar, GMOs, soya, vegetable oil and sulphites. Much like the Nakd bars it’s full of simple ingredients and is raw, it has a lighter colour than most other bars that I’ve seen. Unlike some coconut products that I’ve tried recently the coconut was not soapy, it was just creamy and delicious and the strips of coconut added another texture to the bar. The overall taste was sweet and nutty…

Best-Ever Black Bean Burgers

I’ve eaten a whole lot of veggie burgers throughout my vegetarian life. Rarely have I ever made them myself, and this recipe really outshines anything you can buy in the freezer aisle. It takes a little bit longer to make this recipe, so if you’re always in a time crunch after work like me, hold off on this recipe until the weekend. I often find myself facing a major problem in trying new recipes: I don’t have a food processor. But I found a secret hack to the lack of food processor- an electric mixer. It seriously works like a charm! This recipe in particular comes from Ambitious Kitchen, but I made a few alterations that worked better for me. This recipe originally calls for half of a jalepeno and 2 teaspoons of spicy cajun spices, but I am not a big fan of spicy food so I took it out. It also called for sprouts as a topping on the burgers which in general are delicious, but I…

Tofurky hickory smoke flavour turkey style slices

Originally posted on Charm of Love:
Afternoon everybody, Here’s another review for you, this time it’s the Tofurky hickory smoke flavour turkey style slices. I had seen a lot of talk about this American brand online and needed something for a sandwich so when I saw this product in Holland & Barrett I had to try it. These were £2.85 for a 156g pack but I used my rewards for life voucher to get money off this price. I tried a few sandwich variations with the slices, plain with olive spread, with pate and cucumber, and with pate and spreadable Violife. I noticed that the slices were quite thin and as I tried to rip a bit off to try a bit I also noticed that the slices are a little difficult to tear. This difficulty remained when I wanted to take a bite out of the sandwich. Now this wasn’t much of an issue with me, I could still happily eat my sandwiches but if you are like me and get a bit nervous eating…

vegan fall cookies || cranberry almond chocolate chip oatmeal cookies

i totally had these vegan cookies for lunch. no shame. paired with a glass of cold almond milk these fresh from the oven cookies were packed with flavor, were chewy, delicious, + pretty healthy, too. they reminded me of cranberry chocolate chip oatmeal cookies i used to eat in connecticut at my family’s bakery. here’s the recipe- it’s a MUST try. i’m pretty proud of myself for putting it together using healthy ingredients such as cranberry, almond, oatmeal, pepitas, + spices. i used whole wheat flour rather than all purpose + coconut sugar rather than white refined sugars. they are also easily adapted to gluten free by swapping the oats + flour to gluten free varieties. //autumn inspired vegan oatmeal cookies// 1 cup organic rolled oats – used bob’s red mill 3/4 cup whole wheat flour 1/3 cup coconut sugar 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1/3 cup pure maple syrup 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil 1 tsp vanilla extract (also can substitute almond to bring out a more almond flavor) 1…

No Shampoo!

Originally posted on livingtheveganlifestyle:
I’ve been slowly phasing out using chemicals on my body (the kitchen cupboard is next, but shared at uni so we’ll see how they feel about castile soap, bicarb and vinegar) and as castile soap didn’t work for me as a shampoo, I decided to go all out. Literally. What is it? “No-Poo” as it’s called is a method of washing your hair without using shampoo. I’m all for giving anything natural a go! Normal shampoo and conditionder is overflowing with nasty chemicals (especially sodium laurel sulphates and anything ending in cone/s) that coat your hair and strip all the natural oils. This causes your scalp to go into overdrive and produce more oils to replace the ones you’ve just stripped. Conditioner uses chemical to make your hair feel silky and smooth again using even more chemicals – but your scalp still needs to replace the oils it’s lost so it produces even more…resulting in a greasy mess after one or two days. When you go no-poo there is a period…
