Although I was raised in a family that is about as liberal as it gets, however, I also went to Catholic school for literally my entire life (preeschool, elementary, middle, high and college). As I was growing up, I thought it was important to me to wait until I was married to have sex. I didn’t challenge this idea until getting to college when I tried to figure out why that was something that was important to me. The answer? It wasn’t. It was something that was important to several of my “preachy” friends, and my elementary school teachers. This isn’t to say that sex is something that I take lightly, because it’s not.

As a girl, I was taught that sex is morally reprehensible- that it shouldn’t be something that’s done outside of a marriage and if you do you are a slut or a whore. It’s not something…
