Ready for Fall and 10 Strength Training Moves for Runners

I’m seriously counting down the days for the arrival of glorious fall. So along with marathon training as most of you know maintaining some sort of strength training regimen is vital. I try to lift weights 2-3 times a week along with my marathon training schedule. Bodyweight exercises for runners are also really helpful. This gets me out on the roads feeling stronger and definitely more powerful. Working different muscle groups and keeping your body shocked for me I think is so important and will help you get further in the long run. (pun intended) Click on the links to get a description of each. (source- Pop Sugar Fitness) 1. Squats – my absolute favorites are goblet squats 2. Walking lunges 3. Shoulder presses 4. Tricep dips 5. Day: The Gym Actually Happened

16 weeks down the line and I finally make it to the gym. It’s not my first time… I managed it the first time about a month ago. And here I am now, weeks down the line, and I made it again. Yes, you might find the long delay between my visits are laughable, but the point is. I’ve been. Woah there, ease up on the celebratory back patting guys.  I’d dabbled in a few workouts at home. The odd Barre workout, long power walks with the Mini one, a spot of Pilates and Yoga or even a few weights here and there, but time to step it up a level. The point is, this holiday is creeping up on me – and the last thing I want to be fashioning is a soft pillow like belly and Play-Doh legs in my bikini. So on a mission I go. Eat less, move more. It’s a simple science to my goal. It’s worked before, it’ll work again. Watch me go!

My Love/Hate Relationship with Fitness

It’s that time of the year where I find myself and my friends constantly talking about getting our “summer bods” and how we’re going to go to the gym and workout for five days straight or give up pizza and our other favorite foods – obviously all unrealistic goals. I have always been a little self conscious about my weight. I’ve never been considered overweight but I have always been a little thicker compared to my friends. I think that’s what my problem is, I’m always comparing my body to my friends’ bodies. My freshman year of college I  went away to school and gained the dreaded “freshman 15”. I didn’t notice or care too much because I had my boyfriend telling me I was still beautiful. When we broke up at the beginning of my sophomore year I didn’t have much of an appetite for a couple months. I lost about ten pounds but gained it back plus some when I got out of my sad, depressed breakup funk. At the end of my sophomore…

I. Am. A. Runner.

HilaryStyle Earlier this month I completed my 500th class at the studio where I workout! I’m pretty proud of myself! Here’s the thing, 5 years ago, this month, when I started working out, I wasn’t really sure how long it would last. Let’s be honest, I wasn’t sure I would make it a week. However, I had recently returned from a trip to New Orleans, and from the way my jeans were feeling, I might have eaten one too many beignets. Rather than complain about it, I was taking action! I would be a runner. I borrowed an old pair of Nikes, buckled Elliot into his buggy and away we went! Okay, It Wasn’t Quite That Easy… Not really grasping what it meant to “go for a run,” I threw on some old sweats, an oversized t-shirt and those borrowed Nikes and headed to the park… 3 MILES from our house!… View original post 568 more words

How to Plan Out NYC in 10 Days

I am still on such a high from the big apple! I love it so much! There is so much to see and do and to just look around at! Since this was the boyfriend’s first time I knew we had to hit all the sights. We took a red eye flight and got to the city at 10 am. And then the adventuring began! Because we had so many things we wanted to do we decided to write down by days what we wanted to see and do. Day 1: Arrived at the apartment, went to brunch, came back for a nap, took our first subway ride to Times Square to soak in all the bright lights. Then we wandered down a street to get dinner in our first Irish Pub for the week! Day 2: Started out with some coffee, then it was off to the Brooklyn Bridge we went. Walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and then went to the park below. Followed…
