He was nothing compared to Ralph! – 14th April 1998

Tuesday 14thWe went ice skating today. There were loads if girls and Freddie. There was me, Emma, Rach, Georgia, Lena, Olivia, Rach’s sister and her mate and then Freddie. It was quite good actually and there was this lad in a green coat (who looked a bit like Ewan Swann) who kept “accidentally” falling into me. They all thought he fancied me. Maybe he did but he didn’t stand much of a chance coz he was nothing compared to Ralph! It’s snowing really heavily and it’s gone quite deep now. I really want a snowball fight with my mates tomorrow but I don’t think that there’s much chance of that happening coz Mum’s making me go shopping for new school stuff tomorrow and Abby and I have got a dentist appointment too. What a fun day I’m gonna have – NOT! I’m really worried that I’m going to run out of time to do my homework as well. I’ve only got two pieces but they’re really long and…

Rolling down a hill with Jez – 17th February 1998

Tuesday 17thWe got put into different groups again. I got put in the better group to go down the big slope with some instructor called Sonia who had a go at you if you fell over. In my good group there was me, Rachael, Georgia, Josie Nichol, Jim Brackenhurst, Graham Baxter, little 5 yr old Jack L (Mrs L’s son) and Miss P. After lunch we went all the way down the mountain. It was quite steep and some parts were quite scary. We also did the slalom and jumps and stuff. It was good at lunch. The kitchen staff had made packed lunches which we ate in the café at the top of the mountain. We had from 12:00 noon ‘til 1:30pm and we all had a snowball fight coz it was the one snowy day we’d had. I ended up rolling down a hill with Jez which I can’t say I minded really! I still like Jez and Ferny but Ralph, Freddie and Graham are being…

On Top Of The World: Vermont

I took an occasional skiing trip to Vermont with my family as a kid. Last winter, I got the chance to return again when I received a three day stay at the Summit Lodge in Killington as a Christmas present. So, I packed my bags and gathered up my boyfriend and took off for Vermont for a long weekend during our winter break from college. The Summit Lodge was a great place to stay and had the ultimate Vermont, cabin-feel. The lodge featured an indoor whirlpool, heated outdoor pool, made-to-order omelets (!!) as a part of the complimentary breakfast, and delicious restaurant and bar; but my absolute favorite part of this particular lodge was two of the permanent residents there. The lodge is famous for having St. Bernard dogs that live on site! Over 40 years, the Summit Lodge has housed a male and a female St. Bernard simultaneously. They’re known around town as the Summit Saints! Much to my pleasure, I was able to see the current St. Bernards, Rachel and Teddy, a few times during our…
