Prosciutto Wrapped Figs

Life According to Jamie Figs are one of my favorite fruits. Well, I love most fruits, but figs are up there. I think I even had them on my monthly favorites one month last summer. I also love prosciutto, the Italian cured ham. It’s a well-known fact that salty and sweet go together so well. A popular appetizer are prosciutto wrapped melons, but an appetizer or snack that you may not hear about as often is prosciutto wrapped figs. This isn’t really a recipe post, because there’s nothing to it. I washed and cut up some figs, wrapped some strips of prosciutto around the figs and that was it! The salty prosciutto pairs harmoniously with the sweetness from the figs. This is perfect to serve as an appetizer to any summer dinner parties or a little snack for yourself this summer as the figs are so sweet and refreshing. It’s so tasty and while the addition… View original post 20 more words

Apple & Peach Crostata

Life According to Jamie Crostata’s are a dessert that I really enjoy making. If you’ve never heard of a crostata before, it’s essentially an open-faced pie. You can make yours with any kind of filling you want. For the one I’m sharing today I used apples and peaches – perfect for the upcoming summer season and on/off spring days we’re having now. First, peel and cut your fruit. Then, I mix the fruit with brown sugar, flour, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. The lemon juice is to help the fruit from browning. After giving the filling a good mix,  I brush egg wash onto pie crust dough and then carefully pour/spoon the fruit into the center of my pie crust dough. Next, fold the sides towards the center, slightly overlapping the sections. Brush some egg wash onto the top/sides of the crostata and sprinkle some sugar onto the dough. I also put a few pats… View original post 24 more words

Lazy Vegetarian Meal Ideas #25 Chickpea and Kale Delight

Originally posted on News, reviews and cooking tips:
I love chickpeas. Like, seriously. I could write a sonnet about chickpeas. Chickpeas are cheap, tasty and protein filled beauties and I don’t know what I would do without them, and they are also fabulously cheap! This recipe is my take on the more traditional spinach and chickpea combo; kale has a slightly sweeter taste, but I prefer it personally. What you need: A can of chickpeas, about half a pack of kale, olive oil, an onion. Spices: Asafoetida, fenugreek, tumeric, chilli powder, cumin, coriander seeds, mustard seeds, salt, pepper, chilli flakes 1: Heat oil in a large saucepan and add some asafoetida and mustard seeds. Heat the oil over a medium heat for a few minutes (chop the onion in the mean time) until it becomes fragrant. Then turn up the heat, add the onions and spices and fry for five-seven minutes 2: Add the kale and sauté on a medium heat for a few minutes. Then add the chickpeas and some more spices and fry for about five…
