Sick Day Essentials

Originally posted on Surrealistique:
I’ve been sick since yesterday, but I woke up feeling even worse today. I have no idea if I have a fever or not because our thermometer doesn’t work correctly, and I haven’t gotten around to getting a new one yet. I do know that my head hurts, my nose is getting stuffed up, and my throat feels like it’s on fire. This is the first time I’ve been sick in two years, so I had a pretty good run. I knew I was bound to catch something eventually though. I took a sick day from work today, which is not something I do often. When I miss work, my co-workers are responsible for my accounts. Most of them are already working at least ten hours a day with their own stuff. Plus, it’s super stressful going back after having time off because I have to figure out where things left off and try to get accounts caught up that my co-workers didn’t have time to get to while I was…

5 Don’ts For When You’re Traveling

1. Don’t forget a back up plan Even trips where you’re winging it require some kind of plan. You never know when the bus you bought tickets for will get delayed and leave you with no ride to the airport (cough, cough, Greyhound). 2. Don’t overpack Carry ons are really all you need. I usually bring a few pieces I can swap around and create new outfits out of. 3. Don’t forget the do not disturb sign I don’t know about you guys, but the one thing I hate about hotels is always being intruded on – which is why I prefer airbnb’s. Someone is always knocking to clean or calling to ask something and I just want to be alone! 4. Don’t glue yourself to your phone My favorite part about going out of the country is only having wifi when I’m chilling in the hotel. I don’t really preach putting your phone down often, but it’s nice when you’re on vacation to enjoy the moment and the people…

Top 7 Disney Park Tips!

Originally posted on Me, Myself and Everything Else:
I’ve been thinking about this post for what seems like forever now and am so excited to finally be sharing it! I’m sure I’ll be back with more because we all know I’ll post this and immediately think of another tip… Anyways! Let’s get real, Nick and I love Disney! We always have. We both loved it when we were younger and together, the love has just grown more! Disneyland was one of the first big trips Nick and I ever took together and then Disneyworld was the first really big trip we took together! We always have the best time and now we still pinch ourselves that we live so close! And no, we don’t get sick of it! If anything, it makes it better in my opinion because on days where its just so crazy and we don’t feel like waiting in line, we don’t have to! We can enjoy what we want and then go somewhere else! No stress of super long days! I’ve…

How to be a Marginally Successful Freelance Writer

Whilst we all know freelance writers exist, becoming one sounds almost impossible. Surely being paid to work from home, never having to get out of your pajamas and effectively being able to stay in bed all day is too good to be true? Note: This article refers to non-fiction writing and is for people who want to be professional journalists, bloggers etc. Fiction writing is probably similar and some of these tips will still apply, but if fiction is your thing you will have a slightly different process. This also refers quite exclusively to online writing, journalism, blogging etc. My office The bad news Becoming an online freelance writer is easier than you think, but if you’re expecting immediate riches (or any substantial money at all for the first few months) then you’ll be disappointed. Unless you are very, very lucky you won’t instantly become a respected writer for a well-known website. Don’t expect regular wages When you do start getting paid (and you will if you keep at it) it won’t be a substantial …

Social Media – The Necessary Evil

Originally posted on MiddleMe:
Social media – the blessing of my life and the bane of my life. The first part of the article is here if you have not read it yet. I’m going to explain further why social media is a detriment to productivity as I found out the hard way. I was on social media Twitter, Facebook and WeChat at 9 yesterday in the morning, with the intention of wanting to do a quick check and update on some of the stuff I read online the day before. Happily lounging on my couch, still in my pj, scrolling furiously at my Twitter to see if I missed any news when the good old trusty tummy start to rumble “Hungry. Feed. Me.” I looked up and to the shock of my life, it’s 12 in the afternoon! I have just wasted my half of my day on social media!!  During those 3 hours, I could have try a new recipe, swim many laps in the pool, finish 5 chapters of a book (I’m…
