The Rat Race.

I had plans to volunteer at schools in Vietnam, to get my PADI diving licence in Thailand, and to work on my freelance portfolio while I was at it. A two-month editorial internship in Singapore, the kind of thing that someone with my degree is ‘expected’ to do once they graduate, and I got stuck. I didn’t see giving up this internship as an option; it was a great opportunity to gain experience and to get some more print pieces published. Plus, I told myself, it would give me some more time to plan out the rest of my gap year, to really go do what I want; travel. With this plan in mind, I started my internship. Trying to Succeed in 2015 (Now v. Then)

College Requirements Requirements change/increase every year. The standards to get into the university I attended have changed since I applied. For each company I wrote down their number, email, point of contact (if there was someone designated), and their location. When internship season arrived… Internship season is the period in which one should start applying for internships. This should take place the season before you wish to partake in an internship. For example, if you intend to intern in the fall, you should start applying/looking the summer before, if not SOONER. When internship season arrived, I called around and inquired about when companies would start accepting applications, who I should email, and what I should send. I also looked up tips on questions to ask and how to greet each person I spoke to. Why am I telling you this? Well, many of my friends were impressed by this. There were many adults who were amazed by this initiative …
