NYC Spotlight: Gotham Bar and Grill

Originally posted on Chey Chey from the Bay:
One of the highlights of my eating excursions this summer was having the opportunity to dine at the famed Greenwich Village restaurant- Gotham Bar & Grille- with my bf and his amazing mom! Gotham is a beautiful restaurant- stylish, but it still felt warm and inviting. I really loved the feel of the high ceilings, pretty fabric-draped light fixtures and grand floral arrangements that decorated the restaurant. The food was fantastic and so skillfully presented. How could I not take pics of everything before I devoured it? The first courses were phenomenal! We had the intricately prepared Yellowfin Tuna Tartare, with Japanese cucumber, shiso leaf and sweet miso asian ginger vinaigrette and the delicious, perfect-for-summer dish, the Soft Shell Crab that featured summer squash, sweet corn, fresh chickpeas, purple eggplant, roasted red pepper, and a lime ginger emulsion. The tartare was so fresh and paired nicely with the acidity of the vinaigrette. I’ve always been a huge fan of soft shell crab and this was hands down my favorite soft shell crab…

Update: Weight Watchers – Week 5

What a busy week! I had so much going on, with a variety of different things planned. I also handed in my notice because I’m starting my new job soon. So exciting! Matt and I went shopping in town last Saturday and decided to have some lunch out. We opted for Nandos which we both love. This meal came to 20pp and is totally worth it. I was extremely full for the rest of the day. These pancakes seem to have become my Sunday morning treat. They are so easy to make and fill me up for the rest of the morning. I usually mess up a couple of the pancakes which makes them approx 2pp for this amount. On Sunday I attended Sheffield Style Show. I missed out on the Saturday unfortunately, but Sunday was brilliant. I really enjoyed it. The walk there was up so many hills, my Fitbit was going crazy. You can read more about Sheffield Style Show in my write up all about…

Day: Sh*t got dirty!

If you don’t judge me… I’ll judge you! I ate this today. I’m disgusted with myself. Although, whether that’s because I spent £8 on a freakin’ burger and £4 on chips and couldn’t finish it, OR whether it’s because I thought it was a good idea to have this in the first place. It looks like food only pigeons would eat! I know… My names Snacks and I eat dirty food… I’ve since then, been 8hrs off the burgers. The road to success, RIGHT THERE!  But’s lets rewind a second. £8. For a burger. A BURGER! For THAT I was hoping it was cooked by strapping, tanned, beefed up Aussie while stood in his front lawn at his BBQ in the burning sun, before being flown into my hands by the burger angels. I’d like to say it ended there, but it didn’t. It really really, really didn’t. I consumed chocolate, cookies, milkshake… extra chips. Somebody stop me! If I carry on at this rate, I’ll be rolling into work on…

Tips & Tricks to Losing Weight & Keeping it Off!

TRIED-AND-TRUE TIPS TO WEIGHT LOSS AND KEEPING IT OFF: PORTION CONTROL. It’s no secret that portion sizes have gotten larger and thus, so have we! There’s nothing worse than ordering a meal at your favourite restaurant to find that half way through it, you are full. But of course you continue eating because it tastes so good and then leave inevitably leaving bloated, overfilled and sometimes sick. (Please tell me you’ve done that too!) The only cure for this, is to pay attention to serving sizes by reading nutrition labels and teaching yourself to understand them. Make it “normal” to measure out your servings, eat only one helping and resist the urge to “clean the plate”- No easy feat! HELPFUL HINT: I always eat my meals on a small plate rather than a dinner plate, therefore I can fill it right up which make me feel like I’m eating lots but really I’m eating a smaller amount.  BE MINDFUL. Get to know your body! Pay attention to what you are…

Not Your Mother’s Jello

Grass jelly is a common Asian dessert. To describe it, I would liken it to a jello that has a subtle herbal taste. This makes it a great addition to any number of other desserts since it won’t overpower them. You can usually find it paired with Asian drinks like milk tea, combined with fruits and such in other desserts, or you can have a bowl of it as is with a sugar syrup or a sprinkling of sugar. The latter is my favorite way of having it. I can’t help but feel content on a hot, summer day when there’s a nice, refreshing bowl of grass jelly waiting for me to dig in. You can get canned grass jelly but it’s pretty easy to just make a batch using powder. My mom uses Sushi Hei Liangfen fen (yea what a name…) All you have to do is mix two powder packets with a cup of room-temperature water while boiling 3 cups of water in a pot. When your powder mixture…

Eating Healthy On A Meal Plan

Eating healthy is hard. It’s a fact of life, now take this struggle and try to eat healthy while on a college meal plan! The freshman 15 is a real thing, unfortunately I know this as a fact having gained, not 15, but a couple extra pounds in college (I blame my love of beer). I was blessed with good taste buds, I have never been a picky eater and there’s only a very few things I really don’t like. I grew up on fresh homemade family meals and learned a lot about healthy eating from my parents so when I got to college I knew the basics about picking the healthiest options when it comes to meals So here’s a few tips and tricks I use for healthy eating while on a college meal plan (I’ll add a general days meals at the bottom) 1) don’t be afraid to ask what is in something or if the chefs can add/substitute or take out some ingredient.      …
