Day: The Gym Actually Happened

Originally posted on Snacks n The City:
16 weeks down the line and I finally make it to the gym. It’s not my first time… I managed it the first time about a month ago. And here I am now, weeks down the line, and I made it again. Yes, you might find the long delay between my visits are laughable, but the point is. I’ve been. Woah there, ease up on the celebratory back patting guys.  I’d dabbled in a few workouts at home. The odd Barre workout, long power walks with the Mini one, a spot of Pilates and Yoga or even a few weights here and there, but time to step it up a level. The point is, this holiday is creeping up on me – and the last thing I want to be fashioning is a soft pillow like belly and Play-Doh legs in my bikini. So on a mission I go. Eat less, move more. It’s a simple science to my goal. It’s worked before, it’ll work again. Watch me go!

Day: I let myself go. And I mean… REALLY bad.

So today, this happened… permission to judge! I don’t think I need to actually write a post here. You can clearly see for yourself that today was a bad day for the diet. But it’s ok. As with life nowadays, I’m not going to beat myself up about it. Just move on, and continue to try… I mean, how is anyone supposed to turn away from this?? Ok, one friend did – yay her. But I couldn’t. Nu uh! Not a chance! Needless to say I couldn’t finish it, but I god damn well tried! It was a Galaxy flippin’ Cheesecake… go figure!

Drink Away That Extra Tummy Fat And Fight Illness

Today, I had a question from one of my readers and I would like to respond to that question in today’s post without placing their name out there.  I understand how embarrassing some medical conditions can be and if you want your name linked somewhere in this post, simply let me know in the comments below.  Otherwise, I’m simply going to address the question and I hope this is of some service to you. The question is this(paraphrased, of course): “I have a heart problem, epilepsy, and diabetes insipidus(water diabetes).  How do I live with these conditions while reducing my tummy?” First off! I am assuming you mean you want to get a flat stomach or be somewhat close to having abs?  If not having abs?  This means we have to have a low body fat %.  The body fat percentage must be around 12-14% for a female to have that flat stomach look you are going for; for a male, that would be around 10%.  For the general…

Update: Weight Watchers – Week 5

What a busy week! I had so much going on, with a variety of different things planned. I also handed in my notice because I’m starting my new job soon. So exciting! Matt and I went shopping in town last Saturday and decided to have some lunch out. We opted for Nandos which we both love. This meal came to 20pp and is totally worth it. I was extremely full for the rest of the day. These pancakes seem to have become my Sunday morning treat. They are so easy to make and fill me up for the rest of the morning. I usually mess up a couple of the pancakes which makes them approx 2pp for this amount. On Sunday I attended Sheffield Style Show. I missed out on the Saturday unfortunately, but Sunday was brilliant. I really enjoyed it. The walk there was up so many hills, my Fitbit was going crazy. You can read more about Sheffield Style Show in my write up all about…

Happy Fry-Day!

With one blog post I am going to make your Friday go from Fri-Day to Fry-Yay! You heard it here first Perth-ites… Lord of the Fries is bringing it’s delicious fries with a side of burgers to the people of Perth! That’s right! After months of requests, the Lords will be opening the doors to their first West Coast store in late 2015. Although I can’t tell you the exact date or location just yet, I can tell you that it will be in the Perth CBD and by following simonemckenna.com you will be the first to hear all about the new store and  grand opening! If you’re not familiar with the Lords, the idea was born from late night snack excursions in 2004, where founders Mark and Mandy met while living in Taiwan. Their love of fries (and each other) drew them closer, while their conscience led them to look for alternate solutions to the chemical and beef tallow laden options on the market. They were seeking perfection in the form of golden and crunchy fries that used…

My Obsession Monday: Coconut Bake

Warning: I’m about to brag a little about my husband. 😉 My man is pretty hot and he’s been working his butt off weight training all summer. He definitely motivates me to keep going. Gains, yo! Because he’s working on building muscle, he eats a lot of protein and because he loves me, he gets up most mornings and makes us breakfast. I am sooooo lucky! However, there are days when he wants to sleep in or I have extra bananas I need to use so I have an easy breakfast alternative to our usual eggs and bacon (at least for me – he’s allergic to coconut – yes, his life is a little bit darker because of it). Drumroll please. *drumroll* Coconut Flour Breakfast Bake! Photo credit: Evan at thewannabechef.net I found this recipe on Pinterest, of course. It is super easy to make, very quick, nutritious (low carb, gluten free, AND dairy free), and tastes a little like banana cake. FOR BREAKFAST! Seriously, it takes about 5 minutes…

A Quick Guide to Preparing Healthy Food

follow these quick and easy healthy substitutions when preparing food. •Bake, grill, poach or steam foods rather than microwaving or frying foods •Try applying oils using a spray bottle or use nonstick pans rather than coating your food with oil, no matter what kind of oil is used •When baking or following a recipe try substituting 1.5 egg  whites instead of 1 egg •Use nuts sparingly. Remember that nuts, although healthy, are full of fats and should only be enjoyed in small quantities •Use sea salt instead of table salt •Try using low fat yoghurt instead of sour cream or mayonnaise- you won’t even taste the difference!
