My Daily Bread // Family Chili Recipe.

It’s that time of year. Your Christmas tree is probably up, most of the Thanksgiving leftovers have been eaten through, and possibly, there’s a little bit of snow on the ground. For me, two of those things are true,?still no snow days for me yet! But even if none of those things are true, you cannot go wrong with chili. If I thought my last time in the kitchen was bad, then this time is in a category all it’s own. I have to admit, getting the hang of cooking is much harder than it looks! Getting all the right ingredients, preparing the food successfully, everything running smoothly, at the same/correct time, and then coming out deliciously? Much harder said then done. But, I learn something new every time. This time around I found out just how important it is to have simple recipes when you don’t cook often. One reason is, you will waste a ton of money on random ingredients that will end up going bad before you…

This recipe is a must try and if you do try out this recipe be sure to tag the picture with the hashtag #winnifercooks on Instagram so everyone can see. Happy cooking everyone! ❤

Açaí Berry Ice Cream (no dairy + refined sugar free!)

Summer is arriving in Cape Town (yeahyeahyeaaah!) and I couldn’t be happier. I am done with rainy, grey days and cold weather. Take away my pale, untanned skin and cold hands! Give me all of the sun, clear blue skies, beaches and ice cream! I pulled this recipe together in anticipation of the soon-to-be sunny, hotter weather. It’s a super easy recipe, only takes 5 minutes to make and BEST of all, it’s on the healthy side. Made with beautiful tarte berries and a little bit of açaí (ahh-sah-ee) powder for a rich, dark chocolatey flavour. Ingredients: 250g frozen mixed berries 1-2 frozen bananas (1 if you want less carbs, 2 if you want to bulk up the recipe.) 60ml almond milk, unsweetened 2T açaí berry powder Method: Place the frozen mixed berries, banana, almond milk and açaí powder in a food processor and blend on high until a thick liquid mixture has formed. If the berries and banana aren’t easily blending, add in a little more almond milk…

Happy Fry-Day!

With one blog post I am going to make your Friday go from Fri-Day to Fry-Yay! You heard it here first Perth-ites… Lord of the Fries is bringing it’s delicious fries with a side of burgers to the people of Perth! That’s right! After months of requests, the Lords will be opening the doors to their first West Coast store in late 2015. Although I can’t tell you the exact date or location just yet, I can tell you that it will be in the Perth CBD and by following simonemckenna.com you will be the first to hear all about the new store and  grand opening! If you’re not familiar with the Lords, the idea was born from late night snack excursions in 2004, where founders Mark and Mandy met while living in Taiwan. Their love of fries (and each other) drew them closer, while their conscience led them to look for alternate solutions to the chemical and beef tallow laden options on the market. They were seeking perfection in the form of golden and crunchy fries that used…

Tea Time.

What could be better than a chilly, rainy, autumn morning, with a steaming cup of tea in hand? Nothing, that’s what. Okay, maybe I can think of a few things, like a millions dollars, a herd of ponies, endless bruschetta… But a dreary morning being warmed up by a favorite tea is still pretty amazing. Since I stopped drinking soda this month, I’ve been looking for healthier, still delicious alternatives beverage wise. Going through a gallon of juice can get expensive, especially with how quickly it disappears. I never was a coffee drinker, and I’ve had to let go of my all time favorite drink, Red Bull. I will admit that I have been much better off without Red Bull, and I know in the long run less/no soda is great too. But I have to admit, water can get a little tedious after a month. So I decided to pick up drinking a little bit more tea. From time to time, I’ve been brewing up my old favorites and…
