Minimal Millennial | Emily Torres

emilyMy name is Emily and I’m determined to live life to the fullest – but without all the stuff. Through paring down my belongings and cutting frivolous shopping, I am making my life more intentional. I started my minimalist journey a few years ago when I realized my possessions were (literally) weighing me down and holding me back from going places I wanted to go. I was born and raised in Indiana, but now I’ve started a new life in Los Angeles with my husband and two rabbits. I love (and write about) simple living, healthy food and spreading joy.

Life & Inspiration

The purpose of my blog is not to preach. It is to document the progress (and setbacks) of making my life more intentional and simplified. I’m not always perfect, but that’s the beauty of the minimalist/simple living community. Everyone is encouraging and willing to share their own stories. My long term goal is to create a resource for anyone looking to live an authentic, simple and positive life, and at the same time keep my personal momentum going. I want to live a better life, so I write about it to help work out some of the confusing parts. And I hope to help some people along the way!

FACTS ABOUT EMILY TORRES
Where is your favorite place to go on a weekday afternoon when you have no plans?
I like to walk to the farmer’s market at The Grove (an outdoor mall near my apartment in LA), grab a beer, and people-watch. There are people there from all corners of the world, and it’s a great place to get ideas for the blog or just to get out of the house for a while.

What is one of the weirdest things you used to do as a teenager?
Every week, I would put a movie on in the kitchen and bake chocolate chip cookies. I’m a creature of strong habit, so I never switched up the routine. I always used the same recipe and watched either Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl or Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. I’ve seen both of those movies more often than I’d care to admit.

What trajectory are you hoping to push yourself onto? Where do you want to head?
My goal, professionally and with my blog, is to move into a position where I can help people face to face. I’m not sure exactly what that means yet, but I’m thinking about offering consulting or speaking services way down the road. Maybe a podcast or videos? I realized a few years ago that one of my favorite things to do is be kind and helpful to people, and although it sounds cheesy, I hope to someday do that for a living.
